Description

Fort Frederick State Park is a 585-acre area that features the stone fort that served as Maryland's frontier defense during the French and Indian War. The park is full of history and provides programs that cover gun use, junior ranger, colonial children's day and the 18th Century Market Fair.

A boat launch provides easy water access for fishing and swimming use. A hiking trail and interpretive programs provide a valuable culturing experience. The park has several picnic areas, campsites, a playground and more amenities for a variety of other recreational activities.

Hiking is a pleasure at the park's short .3 miles trail that passes through the wetlands. Hikers will have to the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife including turtles, waterfowl and deer.

Directions

Fort Frederick State Park is located in the Cumberland Valley, 18 miles west of Hagerstown and one mile south of I-70 near Big Pool (Rt. 56, Exit 12). The park is 88 miles from Baltimore and 81 miles from Washington, D.C.
